Q-Day refers to the moment when quantum computers become capable of breaking the cryptographic algorithms that secure much of the world's digital infrastructure. The potential fallout includes the collapse of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), which underpins protocols like HTTPS (for secure web browsing), digital certificates, and secure email systems.

To mitigate this, organizations such as NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) are working on Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC)standards—new algorithms that will resist both classical and quantum attacks. These include lattice-based cryptography, which involves complex geometric problems that even quantum computers struggle to solve efficiently. Many companies are adopting hybrid cryptographic models.

Quantum networking is a new form of communication that uses the unique properties of quantum mechanics—specifically superposition and entanglement — to transmit data securely.
